Meet Mayfield the Cat

Mayfield the Cat

Many people ask if Mayfield was/is a real cat or if he was fabricated.   The true answer is a little bit of both.   Mayfield is loosely based in his markings and character on a cat named JP Kitty.   He was named JP, because he was ‘just plain kitty.’   JP, in fact, could not meow and we never found out why.   He purred like crazy and did have a curious right canine tooth that looked like a fang and gave him a crooked smile, but he couldn’t meow.   That was real.

The rest of Mayfield’s story, however, was made up by me with the help of one of my technicians years ago.   JP had been in the clinic one day and Ashley, our head technician at that time, mentioned that a story about a cat that couldn’t meow would make a great children’s book.   The initial story was written a couple of weeks later on a rainy Thursday.   What you see today is the final result after many years of edits.  So, yes, Mayfield is part real and part imaginary.   Either way, I hope you will enjoy reading about him and his many adventures.
